Sexual harassment of nuns in Kerala churches is facing a steady rise in the recent years. Recently, there was a complaint that Archbishop Franco Mulakalal had repeatedly raped a nun of a Catholic Christian church in Kottayam. Consequently, the victim and four other nuns staged various protests against him and the post of archbishop is taken away from him and he is being sued in court.
Lucy is one of the 4 nuns who protested against the Archbishop. The Catholic Christian Church sacked her few days back, accusing her of living a luxurious life. Lucy decided to make an appeal in the court regarding her sacking.
In the past few days, some have locked the door of the convent to prevent Lucy from participating in church services. She was imprisoned in the convent complex itself.
The police rushed and rescued her, following a complaint filed on her imprisonment. Police Inspector Santosh said, “The administration of the Catholic Christian Church will be investigated for the illegal imprisonment of the nun inside the convent.”
Without exposing the accused Archbishop, creating problems for the nuns who protested against the Archbishop, have exposed the injustice that is done by the Church.
