Royal Hindu Restaurant (RHR), a popular vegetarian hotel in Coimbatore has come up with the vaulable thought to stop the wastage of food. The hotel that serves meals in a banana leaf gives back a 5 rupee coin to its customers if they leave the leaf clean without any food waste. The 88 years old hotel is located opposite to the Coimbatore central railway station.
“Earlier 95 per cent people would leave their food, but after we launched this scheme, they have started thinking and are not wasting it,” the owner of RHR Pure Veg restaurant said with a smile as reported by NDTV.
“It’s a small gesture. It will have an impact and we are hopeful that they will not waste any food in the future as well,” the owner told news agency ANI.
The hotel manager’s son Gurumurthy has told to Tamil Magazine Vikatan, “This hotel was opened in 1931 by our grandfather Gurusamy. Since then, for the 88 years, we are providing food with taste and quality. I have studied Hotel Management. The lesson I learnt and the experience in the hotel for many years, has inspired me to innovate in this field”.
“This is a wonderful thought. When eating meals at a hotel, we don’t even get opportunity to say no to a food item. All food items are formally stacked in the leaf. But here, food items are served according to the customer’s wish. We should not view this as a business but approach it with a social outlook”, told a customer to Vikatan.
